How long do you wait to see a patient after adenoids have been removed?
Dr. Mason replies: This is not an easy, stock answer to your question. There are many ways to remove adenoids. The typical operation is “blind”; that is, a scoop of adenoids is removed and some may remain. According to the problem involved, a lateral or peritubal adenoidectomy may be done by removing the adenoid tissue encroaching around and over the Eustachian tubes while leaving a midline strip of adenoid in place to maintain velopharyngeal closure. Some surgeons will do an adenoidectomy nasendoscopically, and this procedure can be tailored to where the adenoids need to be removed while preserving tissue at the midline if needed for velopharyngeal closure.
