I was wondering if your program is guaranteed. My daughter turned 4 in October and she has been a thumb sucker since we adopted her from China. I know they had to comfort themselves somehow because of not enough care providers. So, she wraps her little blankie around her fingers and sucks her thumb.Do you think she is a candidate, and it is not clear what is all in your kit, could you please explain.
You sound like a compassionate understanding parent. That is the number one necessity for success with our Unplugging The Thumb kit. I developed the kit for parents, following the concept I have used and taught to speech pathologists and dental specialists for many years. There is no way to guarantee that any set up parents and child will have success, but we give you everything you need to succeed. We address the importance of the child’s making the decision to quit. We first make sure the child is aware of the consequences of their sucking habits. Then we explain in our parent guide all the steps in order, beginning with awareness and moving to ways of using our positive reinforcement program. Besides the parent guide, a sockie special helper is used and you are told how to personalize it for your child; there is a story about a child who quits sucking her thumb; a video is used to show the consequences of the habit and the happiness of children who “Unplugged” their thumbs; an activity book with habit related fun activities is in the kit; a chart and stickers is included to keep track of the success; and a certificate of achievement is included. You are told how to best offer a reward for quitting and what you should not do is also explained. It is almost always works if you follow the program exactly as described. More information may be found on our program at the following link: http://unpluggingthethumb.com/ The age is right since the program was created with a 4 year old in mind up to a 10 year old. Please note: I am making the assumption that it has been several years ago that you adopted her. If it was fairly recently, I would not address the sucking habit at this time. The program has been successful with certain 3 year olds and there are some modifications that can be made for children older than 10 years old. Thank you so much for your inquiry and I sincerely hope that our program helps your wonderful little girl to “unplug her thumb”….. Please keep us informed if you do purchase it and use it with her!
