I have a question about a client. I have just started seeing an 8-year old girl with a pretty severe tongue thrust and speech errors on all the sibilants plus /r/. She was evaluated by another speech pathologist who missed a short frenulum on this girl. I recommended a lingual frenectomy, which was done last week. She is coming back to therapy Wednesday, and I was wondering if there are specific exercises that should be done post-frenectomy to avoid scar tissue from forming. Yes, and also to get new habits going right away with the new found freedom from restriction. M
Hi M, I don’t usually wait a week to see them, so in the future you might try to set up a post frenectomy appointment even sooner. It is difficult to tell you all that I would do since it involves maximizing them on the proficiency exam in the Myo Manual. I’m not at the computer with my database, but I think you said you do not have the Myo Manual. If you do, I can direct you to the first part of the program and guide you how to do each exercise with her. If you don’t have the Myo Manual, let me know and I’ll try to figure out how to explain some of the goals you want to accomplish immediately. Let me know.., Sandra
