How best to “mark the spot” incisive papilla
For therapy, do you utilise Stomahesive as your “magic spot”, as another trainer calls it, for correct tongue rest posture or do you use another material?
R.
I don’t use Stomahesive, but it might be perfectly acceptable to do so. We used to offer a product called Bullseye Paste that was essentially Stomahesive, but I could not get 100% clearance of safety for every single component, so I stopped offering it. Within the Myo Manual are many instances where the Neon Exercise Elastics are used to help the person obtain and maintain the correct locations during excursions and during lingual rest posture.
Another item as a possibility was brought to our attention by a Canadian with whom I keep in contact. See the Q and A that follows:
From Canada I’m wondering if anyone has ever mentioned using Polident® denture adhesive strips as “sticky spots”. Since its original use is for the oral cavity, specifically the palate, I was wondering whether its use would be acceptable as I also heard of complaints regarding its zinc content. Can you please advise me on this?
The inclusion of zinc in dietary supplements/vitamins is common. However, a report available on the internet indicates that GlaxoSmithKline is removing zinc from their Polident® denture adhesive strips following a class action suit, noting the reports of neuropathy and other problems in a few individuals from excessive amounts of zinc. Denture adhesive strips used with children could potentially be more of an issue with zinc, so it would be prudent to avoid using denture adhesives that contain zinc. Since the manufacturers are removing zinc from the formula for the strips, this would seem to be a non-issue. Having said that, and since some denture adhesive strips containing zinc may remain on drug store shelves pending recall, I will recommend that therapists check the label of denture adhesive strips for the ingredients and don’t use adhesive strips in therapy that contain zinc.
