Q: Are there age norms for the QTT Quick Tongue Tie assessment tool?
A: I don’t know of any formal studies or research that relate to the age of the clients we screen with the QTTs. I derived my method clinically with those 4 years and older, the same as the ages seen for orofacial myology treatment. Remember that it is used as a “quick” screening tool for tongue tie, not a detailed assessment. It is more of a “red flag” that indicates you should look more deeply into the possibility of a restricted lingual frenum.
For the many myo patients that cannot suction flat to the palate, have to have them put tip of tongue to spot and subtract 5 mm from that reading to adjust for the inability to suction. (I have gathered this information myself over several years and it is fairly accurate).
