I just ordered the Swallow Right manual. Do you think it will help with this feeling that I have that I do not know how frequent and long to have the patients work each exercise?
I loved Roberta Pierce, may she rest in peace, the author of that program. It was and is still often used to target young children in schools, where parents are unavailable to participate. There are many people who also use it in the clinical setting with the parent there. I think it is good to read all the programs and ideas that are out there so you can incorporate it into what you already know. For whatever programs you use, it may see “easier” to go a cookbook approach; but you pay a price later because you, as a specialist, might not grow by trying your own ideas out, and individualizing for each patient. I tell each patient that I am probing and learning all the time and I am not afraid to sit back and just think, right in front of them, trying to put things together in my mind so that I can come up with a good home assignment. It is still difficult for ME, so it SHOULD be difficult for you and others.
