{"id":18235,"date":"2021-10-14T23:47:36","date_gmt":"2021-10-14T23:47:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orofacialmyology.com\/?p=18235"},"modified":"2022-10-06T17:53:07","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T17:53:07","slug":"number-of-sessions-client-need","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orofacialmyology.com\/number-of-sessions-client-need\/","title":{"rendered":"How do I estimate the number of sessions a client will need?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"yiv6982401665MsoNormal\"><strong>Q:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hi,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6982401665MsoNormal\"><strong>How do I estimate the number of sessions a client will need? <\/strong><strong>My second question: I<\/strong><strong>s it correct to assume that phase one will be more difficult and longer than the other two phases?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6982401665MsoNormal\">A:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To completely and properly answer that important question, we have to go right to the beginning of when the patient\/client presented to us.\u00a0 This calls to our attention the importance of a thorough case history and a very thorough assessment\/evaluation.\u00a0 As a \u201cgeneral\u201d rule, phase one will take longer because most patients have several underlying \u201cweaknesses\u201d and perhaps one or more barriers that have to be addressed at the very start of treatment.\u00a0 If there are barriers, such as negative oral habits or airway issues or ankyloglossia, it will take longer to complete Phase One than with others who do not have any of the barriers.\u00a0 Sometimes we have to address the barrier ourselves immediately such as with a thumb sucking habit.\u00a0 Other times we have to wait for another professional to intervene such as with \u201ctongue tie\u201d being present.\u00a0 Then we target whatever basics are necessary related to the musculature as directed in Phase one.\u00a0 If there is \u201cweakness\u201d in the lips, it must be initiated in Phase One.\u00a0 If there is a need to address the mentalis, masseter, buccinators, etc. then they are also targeted in Phase one.\u00a0 If, on the other hand, most of these are within the normal acceptable range, then they obviously don\u2019t have to be addressed.\u00a0 Thus, \u201cit depends\u201d is the only honest answer to whether Phase one will be longer than the following Phases.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Q:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hi, How do I estimate the number of sessions a client will need?
