Hello, I am 35 years old and I found out I have a tongue thrusting habit. It is slowly pushing my teeth foward and ruining thousands of dollars from my orthodontic treatment… I noticed as well that I tend to keep my mouth partially open when I get distracted. I was researching the internet and I saw a video and found the website. I think your kit could be a good idea. Is it possible to do it on my own, just from the manual? can you send it here? There is a clinic here but it is quite far from my place to go for sessions. Just one more thing, how long would a treatment usually take? Thanks a lot, Yours sincerely, L
Yes, this is part of the reason that your teeth have moved. When your tongue and lips and jaw are at rest, it affects the way the teeth erupt and even the bone structure sometimes. Orthodontic treatment doesn’t address this problem most of the time because there are not enough orofacial myologists nearby. Most speech pathologists and dental people do not have any training in orofacial myology, unfortunately. Where do you live? Unless your background is medical or dental, I think the Myo Manual program would be too confusing for you. I could help you work through the first part, which is to get your tongue to do all that it is supposed to do, but then you would still have too much to learn on your own. Do you have any allergies? Can you breathe adequately through your nose when your mouth his closed? Can you open your mouth fully and then with your mouth open, touch behind your upper teeth with the tip of your tongue? I think you might be able to find some more answers in our blog. You can put in keywords by clicking the small symbol at the top right of the page. Then more questions and answers might come up that help to answer even more of your questions. I would feel guilty having you pay for the Myo Manual and not be able to use it well enough to help your problem. If you know a dentist or dental hygienist or speech therapist, I could help guide then through the program to thereby help you. Let me know what you decide and how I can be of further help.
