I need your advice about a patient who is scheduled for an evaluation next week. She is a 25 year old lady who referred herself for speech therapy because of her /sh/, /ch/ and related sounds are distorted. How does this fit into my myo program? I know you went over it in class, but I need a reminder. Thank you SO MUCH!
I’m glad you asked for advice since you don’t want to have her fail in your program the way she likely failed to improve or habituate in the past. You have everything you need and I’m happy to give a quick review of what we went over. 1. Be sure all barriers have been eliminated 2. Explain thoroughly and be sure she understands the sequence of treatment and WHY it is necessary to follow it as you will present it in order to avoid the mistakes of past providers. 3. Provide the Myo Manual Treatment Program all the way through the suction exercises. 4. Do NOT introduce articulation until number 2 above is completed to satisfaction. If you forget any of the details you will need to explain it properly, let me know and I’ll be happy to assist you as needed. When to begin artic within Myo Program?
