Orofacial Myology Exercises: When to stop practice for proficiency exam?
Q:
If a client completes Exam #1, do they stop practicing it and just focus on the new exercises or do you have them continue working on them? They always ask me if they should stop. I say, the more practice , the better!
A:
Remember that there are two types of exercises; some are more “strengthening” such as certain lip exercises. Others are part of a sequence that must be mastered in order to move ahead. Criteria are given for passing certain exercises and others, such as those for the lips, have a baseline measurement for comparison. Prof Exam #1 is meant to maximize each client and then continue forward. For those exercises, we don’t have to tell them how many to practice daily; they must be able to demonstrate that they meet the criteria to pass and then continue moving ahead from there.
